Call for Applications

Globesight invites applications for its Journalism Research Grant for South Asia, designed to support rigorous, evidence-based reporting on development challenges and solutions across the region.

This grant aims to strengthen public-interest journalism that brings greater visibility to issues affecting communities across South Asia, with a particular focus on maternal and newborn health, nutrition, women’s economic empowerment, and the role of digital public infrastructure in improving access, inclusion, and service delivery.

About the Grant

Selected applicants will receive financial support to undertake original reporting grounded in field research, data analysis, and engagement with relevant stakeholders. The grant is intended to support journalism that deepens public understanding of complex development issues, centres lived experience and local realities, and contributes to more informed public discourse and accountability. Applications are welcome from journalists working in print, digital, photojournalism, audio, video, and other multimedia formats.

What Selected Journalists Will Be Expected to Produce

Successful applicants will be expected to:

• Conduct field-based reporting, including interviews with community members, practitioners, officials, and experts;
• Produce one substantive story, series, feature, or multimedia output based on the proposed reporting plan; and
• Incorporate relevant data, policy context, and local perspectives into the final output.

Eligibility

The grant is open to journalists based in or reporting on South Asia across print, digital, photojournalism, and multimedia platforms.

Applicants should demonstrate:

• A strong and clearly defined story idea,
• A practical reporting plan and methodology,
• Familiarity with the issue and reporting context,
• The ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, compelling, and accessible way.

Submission Process

Interested applicants should submit a short proposal describing the reporting topic, proposed approach, expected output and relevant work samples demonstrating previous reporting experience.
